Blizzard posted its WoW Forever class deep dive on Rogues and Warlocks on October 7, 2026.
It went up at 3:00 p.m. PDT (22:00 UTC).
This guide lists every Warlock change in that article.
It also adds the Warlock items from the beta development notes as change history.
We checked the English, German and Korean versions of the article on October 10.
This page summarizes official sources; we have not tested these changes in the beta.
Blizzard's Warlock focus is new ways to command Shadow, Fire and demonic power.
Banes separate damaging effects from utility Curses.
Pets now scale with their master's stats.
Firestone and Spellstone become spell-focused weapon imbues.
Affliction leans on damage over time and drains, with critical strikes and self-healing.
Demonology can combine Demonic Sacrifice and Master Demonologist for the first time.
Destruction mixes Shadowburn and Conflagrate with the new Incinerate and Bane of Havoc.
Talents open at level 10, with one-point milestone talents at 11, 21 and 31 points.
A new milestone at 16 points joins them.
You change talents, including Legacy talents, at a class trainer in a major city.
Dual Specialization becomes available at level 40.
Blizzard says Warlocks are still physically weak and rely on demon pets for protection.
It also says their damage now competes with any other spellcaster, in three styles.
Warlock races: Orc, Troll and Undead (Horde), Human and Gnome (Alliance).
Troll Warlock is one of the new race and class pairings in Forever.
Blizzard notes that abilities and talents may keep changing during the beta.
What changes in Forever
Curse of Agony and Curse of Doom are now Banes.
In the talent text they appear as Bane of Agony and Bane of Doom.
Only one Bane can be active per Warlock on a single target.
All effects that interacted with Curses now also interact with Banes.
Blizzard says Banes separate damaging effects from utility Curses.
Our reading: one Bane and one utility Curse could then sit on the same target.
The article does not say this directly.
Curse of the Elements now applies to all magic damage.
Curse of Shadows is removed.
Firestone and Spellstone now apply weapon imbues.
Both stack with other temporary enchantments like Wizard Oil.
Firestone grants more Fire damage and critical strike chance.
Spellstone grants more Shadow damage and spell haste.
Life Tap now scales with Spirit.
Its tooltip now states correctly how much Mana you get from Spirit.
Drain Soul now has a progressive chance per tick to grant a Soul Shard.
The chance rises each time no Soul Shard is granted, until one is guaranteed.
Pets now scale from their summoner's stats.
| What | Before | Forever |
|---|---|---|
| Curse of Agony, Curse of Doom | Curses | Banesone Bane per Warlock per target |
| Curse of the Elements | — | All magic damage |
| Curse of Shadows | Curse | Removed |
| Firestone | — | Weapon imbueFire damage and critical strike, stacks with Wizard Oil |
| Spellstone | — | Weapon imbueShadow damage and spell haste, stacks with Wizard Oil |
| Life Tap | — | Scales with Spirit |
| Drain Soul | — | Rising Soul Shard chance per tick, then guaranteed |
| Pets | — | Scale from the Warlock's stats |
Warlock baseline changes from Blizzard's October 7 class deep dive.
The beta development notes add a change history for Warlocks.
September 24: the Life Tap tooltip was updated to show the Life converted.
Those notes said the tooltip only states that Life Tap scales with Spirit.
September 24: Voidwalker Sacrifice now scales with 10% of the Warlock's spell healing.
September 24: Minor Wizard Oil went back to 8 spell power and Lesser Wizard Oil to 16.
Wizard Oil went back to 24 spell power.
A known issue in those notes concerns Banes and Curses.
They do not track properly if you drop your target and pick it up again.
This applies to a target that already has a Bane or Curse on it.
The notes list it with the other known issues of that beta build.
October 1: Drain Soul is now interrupted when the Warlock casts another spell.
October 1: Hellfire can now critically strike.
October 1: the Incubus model was replaced with a lower resolution model.
October 1: Soul Harvesting was renamed Soul Harvest.
It now correctly grants its 50/100% increase to Mana regeneration.
October 1: pet Aggressive Mode is back.
You find it under the pet tab in your spellbook.
October 8: your current pet is now stunned while you summon a new pet.
October 8: Shadow Bolt ranks 1–4 got new base values and values per level.
Blizzard says ranks 1–5 now grow more evenly, and each new rank is an upgrade.
October 8: Demonic Brand's bonus pet damage is high threat only as Shadow damage.
Two details differ between the notes and the October 7 article.
First, the article says the Life Tap tooltip states the Mana from Spirit correctly.
The September 24 notes described the tooltip differently.
Second, the old name of Soul Harvest differs.
The October 1 notes say Soul Harvesting; the article says Improved Drain Soul.
Where they differ, we follow the newer October 7 article.

Shadow Mastery's damage bonus is reduced.
Wrack (new, 31-point gold medal) deals Shadow damage every second.
For 6 seconds the target also takes 10% more from your other Shadow damage over time.
Blizzard says Wrack is a drain-style spell to use as Affliction's primary spell.
That is when you are not re-casting DoTs or instant Shadow Bolts from Nightfall.
DoT stands for damage over time.
Removed: Improved Curse of Weakness, Improved Drain Life and Improved Drain Mana.

You heal your pet for up to 15% of all spell damage you deal.
When Life Tap gives you Mana, your summoned demon gains up to 100% of the Mana you gain.
Demonic Sacrifice is redesigned as the 11-point gold medal talent.
Sacrifice effects now last 2 hours, and each pet gives a different effect.

Those casts also cut Soul Fire's cast time by up to 40% for the next 10 seconds.
During that time Soul Fire costs no Soul Shards.
Demonic Brand (new, row 4) makes Searing Pain cause less threat and brand the target.
Your pet's next 2 attacks then deal Fire or Shadow damage, depending on the pet.
Shadow damage from the brand is high threat.
Blizzard changed the threat part recently.
Non-tanking pets like the Imp gain no extra threat.
Tanking-oriented pets like the Voidwalker do.
Soul Link moves from row 7 up to row 5.
It becomes the 21-point gold medal talent instead of the 31-point one.

A Dazed target moves 50% slower for 5 seconds.

Blizzard says this makes Ruin easier to reach for Demonology and hybrid builds.
Agonizing Flames (formerly Improved Searing Pain) now takes only 3 points.
It raises the damage of all your Destruction spells.
It also raises Searing Pain's critical strike chance.
Conflagrate moves from row 7 up to row 4 and becomes the 16-point gold medal talent.
Intensity becomes a 3-point talent instead of 2.
It now protects all Destruction spells from cast time loss when you take damage.

It raises Conflagrate's critical strike chance.
Bane of Havoc (new, 21-point gold medal) afflicts a target for 5 minutes.

Destruction talent changes in the deep dive.
Leveling
The deep dive gives no official leveling route or leveling build for Warlocks.
It does give point thresholds, which we put in level order.
Talents open at level 10, and Dual Specialization opens at level 40.
Our calculation assumes one talent point per level from level 10, as in Classic.
It does not count any Legacy perk.
On that basis the 11-point Demonic Sacrifice is reachable at level 20 at the earliest.
The 16-point talents follow at level 25 and the 21-point ones at level 30.
The 31-point talents arrive at level 40.
Destructive Reach now sits in row 1, so every Warlock can take it early.
Ruin moved up to row 3, so Demonology and hybrid builds can reach it.
Drain Soul's Soul Shard chance keeps rising until a Soul Shard is guaranteed.
Pets scale from your stats, so in our reading gear upgrades also help your demon.
Demonic Sacrifice effects now last 2 hours.
Demonic Pact's text implies that without it, a new pet cancels the Sacrifice effect.
Since October 8 your current pet is stunned while you summon a new one.
Each talent change still needs a class trainer in a major city.
Warlock talent milestones (our calculation)
- Level 10Talents open
- Level 2011 points: Demonic Sacrifice
- Level 2516 points: Curse of Exhaustion, Fel Domination or Conflagrate
- Level 3021 points: Soul Link or Bane of Havoc
- Level 4031 points: Wrack, Demonic Pact or Incinerate; Dual Specialization
Stat priority
Blizzard has not published a stat priority for any Warlock specialization in Forever.
The deep dive does say which stats several changes use.
We list those instead of guessing a ranking.
| Stat | Where the deep dive uses it | Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Spirit | Life Tap, Demonic Embrace | Not published |
| Hit chance | Suppressionup to 5% | Not published |
| Critical strike | Pandemic, Malevolence, Firestone | Not published |
| Spell haste | Spellstone | Not published |
| Mana | Fel Vitalityup to 15% | Not published |
Stat effects named in the deep dive. The ranking itself is not published.
Spirit: Life Tap now scales with Spirit, and Demonic Embrace no longer lowers it.
Hit chance: Suppression adds up to 5%.
Critical strike: Pandemic raises the critical strike damage bonus by up to 100%.
Malevolence adds up to 5% critical effect chance to Shadow spells.
Firestone adds critical strike chance.
Spell haste: Spellstone grants spell haste.
Mana: Fel Vitality raises your maximum Mana by up to 15%.
Your stats also matter for your demon, because pets scale from them.
We will add a priority only when Blizzard or final tuning makes one verifiable.
Gear
Firestone and Spellstone are now weapon imbues.
They stack with Wizard Oil on the same weapon.
Firestone suits Fire builds: more Fire damage and critical strike chance.
Spellstone suits Shadow builds: more Shadow damage and spell haste.
Improved Firestone and Improved Spellstone are removed as talents.
Improved Healthstone is removed as well.
Since September 24, Minor Wizard Oil gives 8 spell power and Lesser Wizard Oil 16.
Wizard Oil gives 24 spell power.
Blizzard has not published Warlock gear lists, so we name no best-in-slot items.
Recommended professions
Blizzard does not recommend professions for Warlocks.
The deep dive lists no profession changes for the class.
Our reading: Wizard Oil now stacks with Firestone and Spellstone, so it matters more.
Players ask about this too, according to our daily data collected on October 10, 2026.
An r/classicwow thread on professions for a Gnome Warlock had 32 comments.
That thread is player discussion, not a Blizzard recommendation.
We still make no Warlock-specific profession pick.
Profession and camping changes for every class are in our camping and professions guide.
Addons and macros
The deep dive names no Warlock addons or macros.
Blizzard's built-in Cooldown Manager opened for Warlock testing on September 24.
The October 8 notes say all classes are now supported.
The September 24 notes listed tracking gaps that affect Warlocks.
Healthstone and pet cooldowns could not be tracked then.
The later notes we checked do not say whether these gaps were fixed.
September 24 also added pet control and pet spell flyouts for Warlocks on a gamepad.
The following numbers come from our daily data collected on October 10, 2026.
Blizzard forum thread “Warlocks are Hybrids”: 25 likes and 51 replies.
A forum thread on the Demonology capstone talent: 18 likes and 26 replies.
Two forum threads asked whether Warlock summoning had changed.
One, about summoning into dungeons, had 15 likes and 23 replies.
The other had 10 likes and 17 replies.
The deep dive and the beta notes we checked do not mention Ritual of Summoning.
These threads are player opinions, not Blizzard statements.
